How to Choose the Right Solar Installer in Mauritius

# How to Choose the Right Solar Installer in Mauritius

Going solar is a 25-year investment. The panels on your roof will be there for decades, and the quality of the installation determines whether you get reliable returns or endless headaches. Choosing the right installer is just as important as choosing the right panels.

Here is what to look for and what to avoid.

1. Check for CEB Compliance Experience

Any installer you consider should have direct experience with the CEB Households 2026 scheme application process. This includes:

  • Preparing technical drawings and single-line diagrams
  • Filing the application with CEB on your behalf
  • Coordinating the CEB inspection after installation
  • Understanding net-billing meter requirements

Ask them: "How many CEB applications have you submitted, and what is your approval rate?"

2. Component Quality Matters

The solar industry has a wide range of component quality. Insist on:

  • Tier-1 solar panels - These come from manufacturers on the Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) Tier-1 list. They have proven bankability and consistent quality.
  • Quality inverters - Look for brands like Huawei, SMA, Fronius, or GoodWe. Avoid unknown brands with no local service support.
  • Proper cabling and protection - DC isolators, AC isolators, surge protection devices (SPDs), and properly rated MC4 connectors are not optional.

Red flag: If an installer cannot tell you the exact brand and model of every component, walk away.

3. Cyclone-Rated Mounting

Mauritius sits in a cyclone belt. Your mounting system must be engineered for local wind conditions.

  • Mounting rails should be rated for wind speeds of at least 250 km/h
  • Chemical anchors or through-bolts into concrete are essential
  • Surface clips or lightweight brackets are not acceptable for Mauritius
  • The installer should provide a structural engineering certificate

Red flag: If they say "it will be fine" without showing you wind-load calculations, find another installer.

4. Warranty Structure

A proper installer should offer:

  • 25-year panel performance warranty (from the manufacturer)
  • 10-year inverter warranty (most Tier-1 brands offer this)
  • 5-year workmanship warranty (from the installer, covering installation quality)
  • Mounting system warranty (at least 10 years against corrosion)

Ask them: "If something goes wrong in year 3, who do I call and what is covered?"

5. After-Sales Support

Solar systems need monitoring and occasional maintenance. A good installer will:

  • Set up a monitoring app so you can track production daily
  • Offer annual maintenance checkups
  • Have a local team for troubleshooting (not just a call centre overseas)
  • Respond to issues within 48 hours

Red flag: If the installer does not have a physical address in Mauritius, think twice.

6. Get Multiple Quotes

Always get at least 3 quotes. Compare:

  • Total system cost (including installation and CEB fees)
  • Cost per watt (divide total cost by system size in watts)
  • Component brands and models
  • Warranty terms
  • Timeline from signing to commissioning

Tip: The cheapest quote is rarely the best. A system that costs 15% more but uses Tier-1 components and comes with proper warranties will save you money over 25 years.

7. Red Flags to Watch For

  • No physical office or showroom in Mauritius
  • Cannot provide references from previous installations
  • Pressure to sign immediately with "limited time" discounts
  • Vague component specifications (just "550W panel" without brand/model)
  • No mention of CEB application process
  • Cash-only payments with no formal contract
  • No workmanship warranty
